Evolving A Classic

Overview

"The glass profile should be influenced by our Graphis scale range, yet be different"

Terraillon is a French company that specializes in manufacturing household bathroom scales, kitchen appliances, and wellness products. Established in 1908, Terraillon has a long history of producing innovative and high-quality products aimed at improving people's daily lives.

The ask was to refresh and modernise Terraillon’s top-selling bathroom scale to align more with their evolving brand design language. Mira was a successful company classic product, so it was key to balance this heritage with any new development changes.

Outcome

• Driven revenue and growth. 10+ years of products sold, both online and in-stores

What I did

• Shaped brand voice and personality

• Designed new product. Including the Brand Analysis, Design For Manufacture & CMF

• Explored several design directions through sketches, 3D models and cosmetic prototypes

• Refined design directions communicated the overall aesthetic

Process

Over a few weeks, I created options to refresh the design and maintain or grow the market position using glass as the internal structural element. I explored options revealing an internal glass structure, different break-ups and possible material combinations.

To create this mass-produced product, the design process involved product brand language analysis, sketches, generating several design directions, visual renderings, CAD build and refinement using 3D Rhino, 3D Printed prototype testing, light CMF exploration, with artwork & tech spec documentation for production handover.
