Product design innovations for a leading European manufacturer of bathroom scales.
The fastest product I have ever designed - 8 hours, resulting in designing a new product range.
The original business ask was to craft a high-end scale that would connect with the client's existing app ecosystem. After swiftly sketching design concepts and sculpting hand foam models, I collaborated with a Design Engineer to bring them to life in 3D CAD. Once I completed renders, we presented them to the client, and with their approval, the design was finalized.
It's amazing how straightforward the process can be sometimes.
Outcomes
• Increased revenue and growth. 8+ years of products sold, both online and in-store
• Additional budget allocated to design a 2nd product, resulting in a new company product portfolio range
• Two innovative company products - one revolutionizing weighing; one innovating with Bluetooth technology integration
What I did
• Designed and brought products to market, covering: Market Analysis, Brand Synthesis, User Experience, Design For Manufacture (DFM) & Colour, Material, and Finish (CMF)
• Created and explored multiple design concepts using sketches and 3D foam models
• Refined and detailed two main design directions, including: developing 3D models, and creating renderings communicating aesthetic and features
"Can you do another one?"
- Client
Pleased with the first product result, I was asked to design another bathroom scale building, a new product portfolio range. This time, I explored the idea of a removable magnetic POD for extremely easy to read weight and body composition results. I encouraged the client to delve deeper into user scenarios, emerging cultural and tech trends, competitor analysis, and product architecture to shape the final design direction.
Web Coach Easy View innovated in the industry due to its unique Bluetooth Smart connectivity satellite pod screen that allows people to put the screen anywhere they want - on a bathroom shelf, mirror, or wall, or you can leave it on the scale. The pod displayed the date, time and room temperature, and featured a timer function for tooth brushing or shower.
